Direct application of indigo to cloth with a brush or stamp was long a closely guarded secret. Some early formulas were even deadly.  The history of these techniques will be presented.

Students will mix thickened “greener indigo,” a safe, non-toxic formula, in small jars.  After sampling on cloth, we will paint or print dinner napkins creating sustainable replacements for paper napkins.
